Hurricane season in South Florida is June 1 through November 30 every year, and while South Florida does often have years where they are missed by the storms, there are years where storms come often and hit heavy. A tropical storm can be seen from hundreds of miles away, and again, many of these warnings start off the Gulf of Mexico, and are monitored by the Hurricane center because Southern Florida is an area that is ripe for getting devastated by a tropical storm, tropical cyclone, and even the potential tropical cyclone will bring winds and heavy rain that can do a lot of property damage.
What Defines a Tropical Storm?
The term tropical storm actually derives from a tropical cyclone and these cyclones have winds that are sustained at a maximum of anywhere from 39 mph all the way to 73 mph.
What is a Tropical Cyclone?
Tropical cyclones originate over tropical or subtropical waters and are are highly sophisticated weather patterns. Once a tropical cyclone forms, it continues to stay together thanks to the extraction of heat energy from the ocean at high temperatures and then the heat blends in with the low temperatures of the troposphere.
What is the Role of the National Hurricane Center?
The national hurricane center works to advise people of incoming potential tropical cyclones, mostly in South Florida, as areas like Miami, Fort Myers, and all of Southern Florida are prone to inclement weather from any storm. The South Florida area in particular off the beach can expect a lot of rainfall when a tropical storm warning is issued. Coastal areas will get a threat of flooding in the forecast often times when tropical storm force becomes issued by the National Hurricane center, so take warning if you are ever issued any warnings by the Hurricane center.
